Objectives

The Researchers in the CRoCCo Laboratory are developing basic knowledge to assemble a predictive capability for turbulent hypersonic flows including thermo-chemical and dynamic nonequilibrium. Such a capability does not currently exist and is essential for the design of efficient hypersonic systems. Accordingly, the ongoing seeks to provide:

  • Improved knowledge of hypersonic aerodynamics and aerothermodynamics in the turbulent regime
  • Accurate physical models for the prediction of turbulent hypersonic flows in dynamic and thermo-chemical nonequilibrium
  • Efficient simulation capabilities to predict the characteristics of the flows of interest
  • A well-documented experimental/computational database of turbulent hypersonic flows
